A NEW SONG.
To an old tune (the Vicar of Bray) occasioned by the
following illiberal, and unwarrantable aspersion thrown out
by Dr. Tucker, Dean of Gloucester, "The members of the
Opposition are all republicans, and if they do not join the
French in overturning the Constitution of this country, it
will be more owing to their cowardice than their
principles."
In good King George's golden days,
When true loyalty had harm in't,
A Tory Priest for courtly praise,
And eke for high preferment;
(A vile insinuation)
That all the outs would join the foe
To overturn the nation'
That this is true I will maintain
Until my dying day, Sir,
The nation's foes in favour reign
And steal its wealth away, Sir.
. . . [3 verses with similar burden]
